All About the Adobe Flash Platform

with 23 comments

Just a quick little history before my announcement. Over the past year my brother and I have done quite a bit of contract work for Macromedia (DRK 3, DRK 4, DRK 5, DRK 6, the Product Decision Tool, the Active Content Resources Central application and the AOL Central Demo at MAX). At the same time, I was working as the lead Flash developer at Fujitsu Network Communications, in Richardson, TX. Needless to say, this past year or so was somewhat busy. As of a week ago today, I was no longer an employee at Fujitsu, and accepted a position at Macromedia on the Central team.

At first the decision was a little difficult. The thought of moving to a new city, where the cost of living is almost twice what it is in Dallas, was daunting. But, over the past year I have gotten to know many people on the Central team and others at Macromedia in general, and they definitely made the choice easy. So now I work with some of the brightest people in the industry and in a work environment that is absolutely fantastic. Currently I am bouncing back and forth between Dallas and San Francisco (I am in San Francisco right now until the 12th) and in the next few months my wife and I (and our Golden Retriever) will be making the move to the bay area.

So, what am I doing here? Well, my official position is as a Flash Application Developer. Right now I am working on developing the AOL Instant Messenger Client that will be distributed with the AOL Presence API that was announced in November at MAX. It is really an extension of work me and Josh had started in preparation for MAX. You will definitely be hearing more about this in the future.

So, what now? Well, for now my blog will be staying right where it is. Also, you will see quite a bit of an increase in my postings. It is such an exciting time at Macromedia, and you can be sure that I will share with you anything I can. For the most part, my posts will focus around Flash, and also Macromedia Central. I also will probably wander into other items eventually such as Flex. So stay tuned…

  2. Sweet deal dude! I’m jealous. I, too, am working on an instant messaging solution for Central. It will also be able to communicate with the AOL network (Jabber server-side transport). But, once I’m able to get my hands on the AOL API, I’ll probably just add native client support.
